Cowboy Mouth
REG has been proud to book Cowboy Mouth numerous times, including a record-breaking Peabody Hotel Rooftop Party in downtown Memphis and the Peabody's 2006 and 2007 New Year's Eve.
"ARE YOU WITH ME?!" Fred LeBlanc of Cowboy Mouth demands to know. At nearly 200 shows a year for 14 years, Cowboy Mouth asks this question at top volume. And the only answer they want to hear is "YES!" Cowboy Mouth serves pure New Orleans rock 'n roll, with more hooks and melodies than gumbo has spices, and lyrics that take you directly to a steamy night in the French Quarter.
Fred LeBlanc, maniacal front man/drummer/lead singer (think Tasmanian Devil playing drums with a voice like Bo Diddley), helped rewrite the definition of southern rock 'n roll bad boys while raising hell and making indie records with Dash Rip Rock before becoming known simply as F-R-E-D-D-D! to thousands of fans.
As Fred has said, "If The Neville Brothers and The Clash had a baby, it would be Cowboy Mouth." Taking their name from a Sam Shepherd play, the band has released two albums on MCA, one on Atlantic, and several on their own Cowboy Mouth Records label. They've appeared in the Steven Soderburgh film "The Underneath," on MTV and VH1, on The Late Show with Craig Kilborn, and on a memorable Regis Philbin Morning Show. Cowboy Mouth has enjoyed domestic sales of nearly 500,000 albums, according to Soundscan.
But the album figures are insignificant compared to the number of tickets the band sells to their live events. In 2003, the band played in front of over 1,000,000 people with a touring schedule of about 150 shows.
Crowd participation is a must at a Cowboy Mouth rock 'n roll revival. Led by Fred's larger-than-life presence, the band is intense, with vocal and style changes between members that keep audiences glued, usually leaving them as drenched and spent as the band. Cowboy Mouth fans range from 9 to 90, but they have one thing in common, according to Fred: "Cowboy Mouth is about pretending that you're five years old, naked as a jaybird and about to turn the hose on your parents -- and there's not a damn thing they can do about it!"
Proudly declaring their love for hometown New Orleans and constantly on the road, they've toured several times with their friends in Hootie & the Blowfish, Bare Naked Ladies, Sister Hazel, and Better Than Ezra. Their audience stretches from the festivals and colleges to the clubs and theaters they headline around the country.
You will never forget a Cowboy Mouth show!
Here's video of a recent appearance on "Regis and Kelly":
"On a bad night, they'll tear the roof off the joint, and on a good night, they'll save your soul." -- Cake Magazine
"A Cowboy Mouth show isn't just a concert, but rather ... a massive party with the off-the-hook feel of a Mardi Gras celebration." -- Phoenix New Times
